How to use this ev supercharging calculator

Estimate an EV Supercharging or DC fast-charging session cost, energy delivered, charge time, miles added, monthly spending, and congestion or idle fees.

Formula

Battery energy added = battery capacity × (ending charge % − starting charge %). Billed energy = battery energy added ÷ (1 − charging loss %). Per-kWh cost uses billed energy × station rate; per-minute cost uses estimated session minutes × minute rate. Fixed and congestion fees are then added.

Worked example

Example: A 75 kWh battery charged from 20% to 80% adds 45 kWh to the battery. With an 8% loss allowance, the station supplies about 48.9 kWh. At $0.42 per kWh and no added fees, the estimated session cost is about $20.54.

Accuracy and limitations

This is a planning estimate, not a live station quote. Charging curves, battery temperature, station power sharing, taxes, memberships, dynamic rates, congestion thresholds, and idle-fee rules can change the actual cost. Does this show the current price at a Tesla Supercharger?

No. Station prices can vary by location and time. Enter the rate shown in the vehicle or charging app immediately before the session.

Why is billed energy higher than energy added to the battery?

Some energy is used by charging electronics, cable and battery conditioning, and heat management. The editable loss allowance accounts for that difference.

Why can a per-minute estimate be inaccurate?

Charging power is not constant. It normally tapers as the battery fills, so the actual session duration depends on the vehicle, starting charge, temperature, and station conditions.

What are congestion or idle fees?

Some networks charge an additional per-minute fee after a threshold or after charging is complete. Enter only the minutes and rate that apply to the station you plan to use.
