How to use this moving truck calculator

Estimate moving volume, recommended truck size, fuel, mileage, rental days, movers, supplies, and trip cost.

Formula

Estimated cargo volume combines a bedroom baseline, box volume, furniture allowance, and packing factor. Trip cost = days × daily rate + miles × mileage rate + fuel + fees + mover hours × crew rate.

Worked example

Example: A typical two-bedroom baseline plus 45 boxes and 12 large items may fit a mid-size truck, but bulky furniture and poor stacking can require the next size up.

Accuracy and limitations

Rental fleets publish different capacities and dimensions. Walk through the exact inventory and compare it with the chosen company's vehicle specifications.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose the next truck size up?

When the estimate is close to a capacity limit, a larger truck reduces the risk of a second trip.

Does distance include the return trip?

Enter the billable driving distance under your rental arrangement. Local rentals may require a round trip.

Are tolls included?

No. Add tolls, parking, lodging, meals, and storage separately.
