How to use this tile calculator
Estimate tile count, boxes, grout, thinset, waste, installation cost, and a shopping list.
Formula
Surface area = length × width. Order area = surface area × (1 + waste %). Tile count = order area ÷ tile face area, rounded up. Boxes, thinset, and grout are each rounded up to full packages.Worked example
Example: A 12 × 10 ft floor is 120 sq ft. With 12% waste, plan for 134.4 sq ft. Fifteen-square-foot boxes require 9 boxes.
Accuracy and limitations
Tile spacing, pattern, niche details, room shape, tile caliber, and substrate preparation can materially change quantities.
